2009 Grass Roots Clinic Review |
Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 was an exciting day in Minnesota Gymnastics. All the members of the 2009 Team Minnesota gathered together to participate in the Grass Roots Clinic at Minnesota Valley Gymnastics in Savage, Minnesota. Gymnasts eligible for the clinic and a place on Team Minnesota earned their place at State Championships of 2009. The top five gymnasts in the prime age groups of level 4, 5, and 6 were invited to attend and made Team Minnesota. The mission of the Grass Roots clinic is to take the top compulsory athletes in the State and reward them for their dedication and excellence in the sport. And along with that, help develop them to become the top optional athletes in the State and Region. They receive in depth training from some of the top coaches/judges in the state. The full day of clinics was modeled after the 2009 National Future Stars Athlete Clinic held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado in November. The clinicians consisted of Jeanna Letzring on Flexibility and Conditioning, Javon McGee on Floor Exercise, Clay Strother/Vadim Balakirev on Pommel Horse, Keith Heaver/Dale Bullivant on Still Rings, James Letzring on Vault, Doug Price on Parallel Bars, and Bob Wuornos/Reid Gysland on High Bar. The gymnasts were told at the beginning of the clinic that one gymnast from each group who worked the hardest and made good corrections would receive a prize. The U of M Men’s team graciously donated signed Gopher shirts of the 09-10 Gopher Men’s Gymnastics Team. A big thanks to them!
We look forward to next year with new kids, repeat kids, and great gymnastics! |
